China Video Industry Association Adopts HDMI; Licensing Fees Reduced
July 27, 2006
The Beijing-based CVIA (China Video Industry Association) has agreed to support the HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) standard and collaborate with its principal proponent, Silicon Image, to develop new HDMI technologies and establish testing and interoperability certification labs. The endorsement by CVIA, an association encompassing a large number of Chinese consumer electronics vendors, is expected to propagate HDMI adoption throughout the Chinese industry. Silicon Image has also opened a new HDMI Authorized Testing Center in Shanghai, the second of its kind in China after the one in Shenzhen.

Meanwhile, the licensing agency HDMI Licensing reduced the annual administration fees for makers using the technology in their products from US$15,000 to US$10,000. This fee reduction on payments due after November 1, 2006 is aimed at attracting more HDMI adopters, especially Chinese ones.
